I enjoyed the recourse. The book is very interesting and I really enjoyed the TED talks. It provided me with quite a few ideas on how to make my classes more enjoyable and productive for all students.
I believe the book is 100% correct on the fact that the way we educate our students is not working anymore. It gives great ideas on how to do this but there are many obstacles in the way. Changing the way people feel about the education system today is a big hurdle but I think that for most smaller school district in our state, finances would almost be at the top of the list. A lot of the ideas the book gave us to change would end up being very costly which most school districts would not be able to absorb. I can't see a change coming in the near future and being in education for over 30 years, I can' see it coming in my lifetime.
I really enjoyed this book study and would recommend it to any of my coworkers. It was eye-opening and brought light to some of the issues we are faced with as educators. It gives support to why these issues are occurring.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book study; however, among the many books I have read through these studies, this is one that didn’t resonate with me as much as others. Regardless, it was still great, and the quality of the work was stellar! I loved the self-paced structure because it allowed me to work through the content on my own time as quickly or slowly as I wished. I also genuinely enjoyed the book itself. Its stories, ideas, and examples pushed me to think about education in new and inspiring ways. I would absolutely recommend this book study to a colleague because it’s flexible and engaging.
I thought it gave me a lot to think about but I thought some of it was a little negative at times too but it also made me dig in and think about my classroom and students! All of these book studies make me think about becoming a better educator so they are all good!!
I liked the course. I have done several different book studies and unfortunately, I think this is my least favorite one. It didn't click as much with me as the other ones had and it felt more like a critique with some solutions here and there rather than a guide to creating a better way to educate children.
I enjoyed this book study. It gave me a lot of things to think about and possibly some things I can change or improve. I would love to gather more ways/ideas to improve how we teach our children but this book study opened by eyes to some things that are definitely wrong with our system.
This was a good book study-I especially enjoyed the last few chapters, where the author gave some concrete ideas to implement. I also liked that the author referenced "Teach Like Finland". I feel like our students, no matter the age, need more movement and free time to play and talk and engage with each other and their teachers.
The book brought up many good ideas that I agree with, things such as smaller class sizes, trying not to set arbitrary end dates, and how teachers are focusing more on teaching kids to do well on tests and less and actually learning the material at hand.
2) What didn't you like about it?
That the book brought up many problems and did not give answers to every single one of them.

I liked the book study. It brought up a lot of concerns within the educational system and provided ideas for how to better the certain aspects of the current system. However, the elephant in the room for me seems to be that the author is really arguing for a complete overhaul of the system but outside of a few classroom, school, and policy changes doesn't offer much more as to what that might look like. She does encourage parent, teacher, and policy makers to be involved and work together in a positive way to offer choices and freedom. She, I think and agree with, admits that this is a mind-numbing task and one "We the People" cannot simply ignore with reform effort, legislative mandates, or additional funding.
Overall, I liked the book study. I think it gives educators a lot to think about and start thinking about ways I can change things in my own classroom. I also really enjoyed the TED talks. Yes, I would recommend this book study to my co-workers.
