  1. I do think there is a difference between schooling and learning. A child can go through schooling and not learn. Learning can take place at school, home, with friends in the neighborhood, anywhere. Children learn when they are curious and question what is going on around them.

  2. In my opinion, there is a significant difference between learning and schooling. Schooling is an expectation—something society requires of us. It is the structured system we move through, complete with grades, schedules, standards, and assessments. You can become “good at school” simply by playing the game: following directions, memorizing information long enough to pass a test, and meeting the expectations placed in front of you. Many students learn how to succeed in this system without ever truly engaging with the deeper purpose of education.

Learning, on the other hand, goes far beyond compliance. Learning is how we apply the tools, skills, and content that school provides us. It’s the process of making meaning, asking questions, making connections, and using knowledge in real and relevant ways. While schooling can introduce content, learning requires curiosity, reflection, and ownership. You can earn good grades in school and still not know how to transfer or apply what you’ve been taught. You can also learn powerfully outside of school—in conversations, experiences, failures, and passions.

Ultimately, schooling is the system, but learning is the outcome we hope for. The two can overlap, but they are not the same. True learning happens when students are empowered to think, explore, and use what they know—not just check boxes on a rubric or play the “school game.”

In my opintion I definitely think there is a difference between learning and school. I think schooling is the big umbrella like the school, curriculum, teachers etc. The learning is what happens under the umbrella. Learning takes place in the building and with fellow classmates and teachers being the mentor. Learning also happens outside of the umbrella when your at home. As a teacher, I'm always looking to 'learn' something new each day and that doesn't necessarily happen through schooling.

  4. I do think there is a difference between learning and schooling. Anyone can go through the motion of going to school. But never get anything out it. When a student is actually learning they are engaging in conversation with their teacher and peers. The student uses what they learn in school and apply to another subject or to the real world. Even helping another student with their homework. Shows that the students are listening and retaining the information for later use. Which as educator we want our students to remember and apply it someone how in their life.

  5. Yes, I believe learning and schooling are two different things. Learning is something you do every day and happens naturally throughout your day. You might learn how to use a new App on your phone, you might learn about something that happened in a different city, or you might learn how to fix something by experimenting. Learning is such a fluid concept and it happens all the time. Schooling is very formal and while it still involves learning, it is much more structured and it does not offer students a lot of choice in the matter.

  6. Yes, I think there is a difference between learning and schooling. Learning is when someone is curious about something and is motivated to get more information about that topic. A person learns because they want to understand something or get better at something. Schooling, on the other hand, is to pass a class or move on to the next level. There is little or no control over the topics or level of understanding.

  7. I do think there is a difference between learning and schooling. Learning is something that can happen anywhere and will happen when someone is curious and engaged in what is happening around them and will happen naturally. Schooling will hopefully involve learning, but in too many cases just involves trying to pass on the next level in the easiest way possible, even if it avoids learning.

  8. I believe there is a difference between schooling and learning. Learning is when you actually take something from material and information. You will actually try to utilize the subject that you learn and you won't easily forget it. While schooling has the goal of learning it does not always result in that. In schooling you are given the information, however, you may not reach the level of understanding and knowledge that comes from learning. Not to say that Schooling is a bad thing, it can teach skills like work ethic and consistency even if no learning is taking place.

  9. Oh for sure. Schooling is often a way to socialize or normalize routines and schedules, etc... which is not necessarily a bad thing. Learning takes place all the time. Learning from watching others, noticing which behaviors are rewarded and which behaviors are allowed. Learning how to socialize, learning and finding out what you are interested in. There is a difference.

  10. Yes, I believe there is a difference between learning and schooling. Learning is based on experiences that are meaningful and applicable to a person’s life. It often happens through exploration, relationships, problem-solving, and real-world situations where someone can connect what they are doing to their own interests or needs.

Schooling, on the other hand, can sometimes focus more on memorization, drills, and completing required tasks or curriculum. While schooling can provide structure and important knowledge, it does not always guarantee that meaningful learning is happening.

  11. I think there is a difference between schooling and learning. There are so many kids who come to school and don't seem to have the motivation to get much of anything out of it. Learning is taking information given to you and doing something with it. You may grow from it and gain some new skills. You can learn from others and experiences.

I think there is defiantly a difference between learning and schooling, however, in a perfect world they often overlap. A student can can go to school and not learn what is expected for a number of reasons, some of which are intrinsic and some extinctic. On the other hand, others will learn invaluable lessons outside of school, on the playground, doing chores, in the workforce, or other daily routines.
